For your cot, you'll need a firm mattress with a waterproof mattress protector, a fitted sheet that wraps tightly around the mattress and a sleeping bag to keep your little one cosy while they sleep.

For most parents, 3–4 cot sheets helps them feel sufficiently prepared without going overboard. Having a couple of spares gives you peace of mind when unexpected accidents occur.

To set up your cot, start by securing your mattress with a waterproof mattress protector, then place a fitted sheet on top so that it wraps tightly around the mattress. Then, insert the mattress, making sure it fits snugly in the cot. Lastly, if you’re using a blanket, position it at chest height and tuck it in firmly beneath the mattress.

In our experience, it’s best to change cot sheets at least once a week, and straight away after any accidents. This is important to prevent bacteria from spreading and keep your little one healthy.
